Jimi Hendrix played Fender Stratocasters.

Jimi was left handed and played a right handed Strat. He strung the strings in reverse and played it upside down.

Fender and Experience, L.L.C., Recently unveiled two special edition Stratocaster Guitars, including the Jimi Hendrix Monterey Pop Stratocaster, and the Jimi Hendrix Stratocaster.

- The Limited Edition Jimi Hendrix Monterey Pop Stratocaster -

Only 163 of these guitars were made.

Hand painted to match the one used and burned at Jimi's legendary Monterey Pop performance.

This guitar is a righty guitar strung for lefty players (exactly like Hendrix's guitars). It's an exact recreation of the original guitar Hendrix played and subsequently burned at the Monterey Pop Festival. It's an early sixties style Strat in Fiesta Red with a small headstock. It has an Alder body, Maple neck, Rosewood fretboard and vintage style pickups. It has the white swath painted across the upper part of the guitar (like the original), and a hand painted recreation of the vines and flowers Hendrix painted on his guitar. These guitars are slated to go into production in mid to late April. Here are the specs.

The Jimi Hendrix Stratocaster is built in Fender's factory in Corona, California. It's a left-handed model strung right-handed and reversed, with the strap button on the lower horn. The guitar, which is available in Olympic White, also boasts a maple neck with a large late-60s-style headstock, classic Schaller "F" tuners and woven strap. The icing on the cake, however, is the pickup configuration--three reverse staggered vintage Stratocaster pickups that are positioned perfectly for boning up on Jimi Hendrix classics .- Harmnoy Central
