A pre RHCP-band called Los Faces were formed at Fairfax High School LA.
The members were Anthony Kiedis - Vocals,
Flea - Bass, Hillel Slovak - Guitar and Jack Irons Drums (nowadays in Pearl Jam).

Red Hot Chili Peppers were formed in 1983.
The first real song they wrote was "Out in LA." The played their first gig at a strip club and
got quite well known in the LA. area due to their stage costumes - strategically placed socks.
They also recorded their debut album but Irons and Slovak didn't collaborate due to another record-contract.
Cliff Martines - drums and Jack Sherman - guitar were the replacements.

EMI America released their first album,"The Red Hot Chili Peppers".
The producer was Gang of Four's guitarist, Andy Gill.

Sherman was tossed out when Slovak wanted to return.
They recorded "Freaky Styley" produced by funk-star
George Clinton. But the commercial success stayed away.

Their 3rd album called
"The Uplift Mofo Party Plan" was released.
The tunes were more aggressive and energy-loaded.
The album reached US Number 148.

The Abbey Road EP was released.
Hillel Slovak died in June '88 in consequence of a heroin overdose. Soon after his departure,
long time friend of Hillel's, Jack Irons left the band.
Duane McKnight took over guitar-duties in August.
At the end of the year, McKnight was replaced by John Frusciante,
a 17-year-old RHCP and Hillel Slovak major fan.
DH Peligro, former Dead Kennedy drummer was a temporary replacement of Jack.

The new drummer on "Mothers Milk" was Chad Smith.
Most of the drummers they tested were quite good but
when Flea started to play all of them got so confused that they didn't know what to do (not too strange). Then
they heard about Chad. The only thing they knew about him was that he said he was eating
drums for breakfast. They gave him a try and he started to play with so much aggression that
Kiedis began to laugh. This album turned out quite well.
It stayed on the US album chart for eight months and reached number 52.
They also recorded a song, "Show Me Your Soul" for the "Pretty Women" soundtrack.

RHCP released their multi-platinum album, "Blood Sugar Sex Magic".
The superbness of this album had a lot to do with their new producer, Rick Rubin.
The album contained the hits,
"Give It Away" and the ballad "Under The Bridge". Both videos got prized at the MTV Video
Music Award. The album reached number 25 on UK chart.

Blood Sugar Sex Magic hit number 3 on the US chart 7 months after first charting.
The single "Under the bridge" hit US number 2.
A single called "Soul to Squeeze" was released, the song also appears on the soundtrack for the motion picture "Coneheads".
RHCP also appears on the soundtrack for "Waynes World", the song is called "Sikamikanico".
On tour John Frusciante quit during a four-date Japanese visit
and the band starts looking for a new guitarist. The
sollution was temporary, Arik "The Freak" Marshall, an old friend of Flea.
They performed on the MTV video music awards. Arik quit without explanations and was replaced by Jesse Tobias. At the end of '93 Tobias also quit.
On September the fifth '93, former Jane's Addiction member Dave Navarro joins the band.

They appeared at Woodstock II with Dave, dressed like bulbs.
They began recording for the new album in July.

The long-awaited sixth album "One Hot Minute" was released in
September. It debuted at number 2 in UK and number 4 in the US -charts.

Single "Aeroplane" reached the UK number 11 position.
They made a soundtrack for the movie "Twister" - "The Melancholy Mechanics" (Warped single B-side)
and a cover called "Love Rollercaster"
for the Beavis and Butthead motion picture, "Beavis and Butthead do America".
Flea and Dave also
performed together with Alanis Morisette on her multi-selling single "You Oughta Know".

Flea, Dave and Porno For Pyros made a soundtrack for the Howard Stern movie "Private parts". Flea, Dave and Chad
are also on the soundtrack together with LL Cool J. They are performing a great rocktune partly written by Flea called "I Make My Own Rules".
Dave and Chad have made a "solo"-record, it's finished and planned to be released in the summer -98. The project is called "Spread".

Dave Navarro left the band in April due to creative differences.
John Frusciante rejoined the Peppers in April and they plan to release a new album next year.
