From the top of the trailhead where the forest wraps its warm embrace around new arrivals to the pebble strewn sands below, Sombrio is a true piece of paradise away from the encroaching urban sprawl.
The path at the trailhead slips down into the depths of dark green filtered light and beckoning into the cool shadows below. The plethora of green vegetation and sweet air makes the trail down feel as though an entire coastal forest is around.
The sheer magnificence of nature is mesmerising at Sombrio.
The long beach is studded with large sun drenched logs, stark rocks that break the rhythm of the sand, and pebbles gathering in huge mounds before the sea.
Misty salt spray lifts off the ocean as waves roll through tidal rocks and break upon the shore;
slowly everyone is lulled into the quiet harmony and peace of the coast.
A soft breeze blows off the ocean and makes the forest chatter behind it.
As the sun paces slowly into the night; meteors burn across the upper atmosphere, and wispy clouds weave through an incredible symphony of stars, sliding across a huge, orange moon. It is easy to stay up all night and watch the smoke from the fire dance straight up into the vast expanse of a northern sky. Sombrio is the smell of the forest and the sea mixing together, the feeling of sand crunching beneath toes, and the sweet breaths of the beach filling your lungs.
