    REEL BIG FISH INTERVIEW

    Sean from Melt:How are ya?
    Matt from R.B.F.:I'm fine. How are you?
    Melt:Good. Thanx.
    Melt: Who are the members of R.B.F and what does each person do?
    Matt from R.B.F.:Umm...Well there's me, Matt, I play the bass.
    Aaron he plays the guitar and sings. Scott, he plays trumpet.Tavis, he plays trumpet. Dan, he plays trombone. Grant, he plays trombone and Andrew who plays drums.
    Melt:How did R.B.F first get together?
    Matt:Well...It's kinda debated between members of the band, but Aaron and I decided we wanted to start a band and we started playing old, crappy, WARRANT songs to learn our instruments. Basicly we learned to play our instruments for the band. We went through a whole bunch of different people to be in the band, at one point we had a person playing keyboards, we had a different singer, we had a different guitarist and then we finally became what we are now.
    Melt: How long has the band been together?
    Matt: About 4 years now.
    Melt:Could you describe your music to someone who hasn't heard it?
    Matt:I dunno? I guess it's kinda like SKA with a little punk and pop in it. It's kinda like a stew. Ya know what I mean? Because we all come different musical backgrounds.
    Melt:Ya, you got your beef, you got carrots.
    Matt:Ya! Exactly. You got your beef, a little carrots, a little onion, some broccoli, some broth. That's it.
    Melt:Who are you most influenced by?
    Matt:Me or the band?
    Melt:Either, or.
    Matt:Well the band is probably most influenced by a band that broke up now and they were called Suburban Rhythm. They probably influenced us the most because they got us a lot of shows with them. We were really influenced by them, because they are that ska punk sorta thing. Well, me, I'm influenced by almost everyone.
    Melt: Where is probably the best place you have played?
    Matt: Well it is kinda weird because, usually when we play a show half the people in the band will like it, then the other half won't. Well personally I like Independence Day and board in Orange County. Board in Orange County was really good, but the sound kept cutting off. I sort of really like the big shows where there is a lot of people cause I guess it is kinda cool for me. But I also like the small clubs too.
    Melt: Where is the worst place you have played?
    Matt: MANY, MANY bad shows, lots a cafe Nova shows. There used to be a place in Long Beach called Lucy`s. We played there a couple of times, and one time our old trombone player was dancing around or something and he broke his nose. We played without him. We've played a lot of cheesy clubs also, like Barwinkle's.
    Melt: Are you on tour right now?
    Matt: Well.....were...well...hold on I have to smoke a cigarette. It's a bad habit of mine. Well, now we are trying to play more LA, San Diego, Santa Barbara area. We have played A LOT of shows in Orange County. Were kinda done with Orange County, for a while. But we are trying to branch out now.
    Melt: Do you have a day job?
    Matt: Yeah, actually I do. I do computer graphics for the Internet.
    Melt: Really?!? Do ya like it?
    Matt: I like it, because actually I am an artist. Melt: Did you do the art for the album?
    Matt: Yeah, ya know the mean looking fish? I drew that. Pretty much everyone in the band is an artist. Like our drummer Andrew, he`s a really a good artist. Aaron, actually, is a good artist also.
    Melt: Are there any rumors about the band that you want to clear up?
    Matt: Yeah, actually there is. THERE IS THIS BIG RUMOR FLYING AROUND THAT WE DON`T LIKE OUT OF ORDER, AND THAT IS NOT TRUE. AND WE ALSO HAVE NO QUALMS WITH NO DOUBT. We, actually like both of the bands.
    Melt: I'll be sure to print that in big bold letter for you! What do you think of NO FEAR clothes?
    Matt: I try not to go there!
    Melt: Do you have anything in the stores right now or possibly in the future.
    Matt: Yeah, actually we have a CD called Everything Sucks, out on our own label, called Piss Off Records. And for the future we have had some label interest, but we don`t have enough money to put out a demo. But we are probably going to do a split 7" with the Aquabats. Actually, some of our CD's got over to Hawaii and they started playing the song "Beer" on a really big radio show. And after a while it was the number one requested song. So it was pretty cool.
    Melt: Do you think TV is cool or does it suck?
    Matt: It depends on what you are watching, I like some TV programs. I really don't watch a lot of TV cause I don`t have the time, but there are a lot of stupid mindless crappy shows.
    Melt: What is the worst choice you have made as a band? Matt: Worst choice?.....hmmm....Well, I'm fucked(COMUNICATIONS DECENCY ACT SUCKS!!) if I know. We're one of those bands where we'll decide on something and it will turn out really crappy at first, but in the long run it turns out to be really good. So there really hasn't been many bad decisions, but we have passed up a couple shows that we should've played.
    Melt: Have you had a psycho neighbor?
    Matt: Yeah, actually. I am living next door to these people and they have chickens and they do all of this crap. I don't know they might be Satanist or something. Like my dog killed one of there chickens one time, and they got all pissed off, and what is my dog gonna do? The darn chicken flew over the fence.
    Melt: My friend Chris wanted to know, what do you think of disco?
    Matt: Well, I try not to. Some people in the band might like it, but I stay away from it. To be completely honest I was kinda into it at one time.
    Melt: Any last words?
    Matt: Uh... bye? I can't really think of anything.
