My Garden
I started gardening when I came here to Quebec. I started with a little community garden 10 X 20 feet. I won first prize out of 20 plots. Since then we moved into a house with a very large back yard. I used the yard to make a big flower garden. The first year we moved in was fall so I didn't have the chance to start it. By spring with the snow still on the ground I started to design my garden lay out. I cut out the grass for the flower beds while the ground was still a little snowy and frozen I was so exctied to get it started. The Mountain Centauree are one of the nice blue spring flowers. Just a couple of year's later Now after being here for many years the garden is looking very nice. The perennials have grown so fast and spread around a lot. Through the years it has with stood ice storms that devastated Montreal. Our trees weren't so lucky 1/3 of all the branches from 4 hugh Maples fell to the ground. Now all the trim around all the flower beds are are branches. I made gates between our garage and hedge. I had to get them off the ground so I decide to use them in the garden. Our house is on the island of Montréal. The weather here is very cold during winters. I have a long Honey suckle hedge that runs the full length on one side. It protects it very well We have a sick tree old and rotted, not too many years left. We planted a small Gindko Most of all my work is done by using common sense. Nature would do a good job by it's self with out my help. I had a Hibiscus tree in the house has not flowered in 8 years. This year out side for the summer it flowered. I put the plants in the ground  according to color's, Red- Blue - Burgandy, Aster, Mauve, white boarder- then water, fertilize, and pull weeds  nature does the rest. Today-and some of this years flowers  2, 3, 4, 5. This is October 98.
