The Travel Nut

This site reflects my passion for travel and exploration. Off the beaten path, wherever my opportunities take me, meeting new friends and always being impressed by the beauty and contrasts I find along the way. In the past two years I've sailed Key West, the Florida Keys, the Bahamas and the Gulf Stream as far as the Carolinas. I've flown to Cuba in a rickety old Cessna and lived in the home of a Cuban family. I hiked Orcas Island in the San Juans and camped in the mountains of Washington State. I've watched the Hale Bop comet at 25,000 feet from a private plane. And spent two weeks anchored in a gale at a tiny remote island in the Gulf of Mexico.

Fall and Winter of 1997-1998 found me exploring SE Asia by land and by sea for 5 months. In the Spring and early summer of 1998 I visited Cozumel, the San Blas Islands, Costa Rico, Panama and Cartegena, Columbia, Bahamas and the Florida Keys by cruise ship and then by sailboat. August finds me exploring Alaska! Come explore with me as I post photos and tales of these and future journeys.

I dedicate this site to all my family and friends whose encouragement and support have made these adventures possible. And to the many friends I have met along the way who have helped make my travels easier and more interesting.
