Had a sandrail as my first car some 11 years ago and drove it for 18 months come rain, shine, snow - you name it! Very very cold at times! It got sold on to fund a porsche 550 replica which in turn ended up as university fees(and beer). Ive just started
building a Specialist sportscars stylus- two seat convertible but still hanker after some 2wd offroad fun so am thinking of a Baja as a practical cheap (?) winter driver! But have never driven one and dont know any local owners. Can you tell me how they
handle on road with a reasonable lift and Mud Terrains or the like. Also how bad is the fuel consumption on a 1600 with standard tranny - fuel here is an exorbitant cost. Cheers for reading this and your site is as cool as the cars. Marc

I think I am gunna do it. I am going to start wacking my 70 bug apart, to make a beater baja for the woods and sand. If you have any spare parts like carb/s, baja exhaust, and baja style front wheels for cheap, let me know. I am just going to
get this thing off the pavement and running in the wild until I get done with all my vacations this year. Then in 2000, the buildup of the baja badboy will begin.

I started building my baja in the spring of '98 and went mudding with it this April. It started with a '73 street bug with a thrashed pan. I soon acquired a '70 baja with a thrashed body. To compliment Oregon's scenery it was hand painted Woodland Camof
auge. My wife calls her the Beast but Jezzebel is my little baby. I'll try to send some pics.

I love the buddy, must go anywhere U want to, I might build an offroader over the summer, U have a sweet Buggy there, I wish i could have one just like it
Comments:
Theres a bunch of us who like to go out and thrash our bajas. We like to do it as cheap ,yet strong as posible , but also keep down the weight.Makes it alot funner not worrying about breaking expensive parts or sratching or denting your baja. One of the
unnest rides i have owned!
Comments:
You are off to a great start in the Baja world.
But............ please for the sake of the sport
lose the pink paint! It is a nasty color on a baja bug. I use to have the same baja kit on my
bug and hated it to death. I kept cracking the
fenders with the tires every time I jumped and landed with the tires a bit off center. Keep up
the good work, I am watching you.
