Had a sandrail as my first car some 11 years ago and drove it for 18 months come rain, shine, snow - you name it! Very very cold at times! It got sold on to fund a porsche 550 replica which in turn ended up as university fees(and beer). Ive just started building a Specialist sportscars stylus- two seat convertible but still hanker after some 2wd offroad fun so am thinking of a Baja as a practical cheap (?) winter driver! But have never driven one and dont know any local owners. Can you tell me how they handle on road with a reasonable lift and Mud Terrains or the like. Also how bad is the fuel consumption on a 1600 with standard tranny - fuel here is an exorbitant cost. Cheers for reading this and your site is as cool as the cars. Marc

I started building my baja in the spring of '98 and went mudding with it this April. It started with a '73 street bug with a thrashed pan. I soon acquired a '70 baja with a thrashed body. To compliment Oregon's scenery it was hand painted Woodland Camof auge. My wife calls her the Beast but Jezzebel is my little baby. I'll try to send some pics.

Theres a bunch of us who like to go out and thrash our bajas. We like to do it as cheap ,yet strong as posible , but also keep down the weight.Makes it alot funner not worrying about breaking expensive parts or sratching or denting your baja. One of the unnest rides i have owned!
