I now have a huge amount of respect for the
Coast to Coasters who have to do this after a
70km Bike Ride and Before a 67km Kayak and
another 70km or so bike ride
Awesome track from Blackball to Barrytown, brillant views from the top of Mount Ryall and best of all a Pub situated ten metres from the end of the track, its what heaven would be like.
Top picture: Was taken at 6:30am as we were being trucked up to the start line, it was too steep for the buses to take us up there. A bloody freezing cold ride with large sharp bits of hay being shoved up our bottoms all the way.(unless you requested the non-hay up the bottom truck)
Middle Picture: Just before the start everyone mulling round, I was still asleep when this picture was taken. The guy sitting down in the white is Nathan Fa'avae or something like that he won the Triathalon section and is a favourite for the 1999 coast to coast alongside Steve Gurney.
Bottom Picture: The first guy out of the Kayak section, was a very angry man who yelled at everyone (for the benefit of this story we shall call him El Wanko) he didnt like having his picture taken, just lucky for him he didnt start anything or I would have gave him a hiding (you never know I could have kicked his arse)
All in all it was a 28km run across a mountain range unless you were doing the triathalon section which then meant Kayak, Mountain bike and Cycle legs but whos silly enough to do that. (not this soldier)
