  Mission Statement
Stop The Violence Magazine mission is to provide a Canada-Wide safety network through the use of the Internet. To contribute to community violence prevention through the development of information, tools and resources. The results, applicable across Canada, are intended to facilitate community participation in all phases of violence prevention.
  The Problem
Youth violence is a complex issue. There are no easy solutions. The complexity of the problem demands integrated response using many community partners. Police, educators, students, parents, and government alike recognize the need and the importance of building and maintaining productive working relationships between all types of youth-serving agencies and organizations. Communities that possess a willingness to foster the growth and development of these working partnerships among all youth-serving agencies, professionals, and other persons have the best chance of making a difference.
However, governments all across Canada are under pressure to reduce expenditures. Faced with funding cutbacks public service agencies are looking for ways to make optimal use of their financial and human resources. More and more the social service community, broadly defined, is advocating for a social policy strategy that supports the allocation of resources to intervene earlier in the lives of children, especially "at-risk" young people and their families. Though not all violent and aggressive behaviour had its source in early childhood development, research on children that takes a developmental perspective points directly to the need to put more of our resources in this area. Primary prevention and early intervention are they way of the root causes of most forms of violent and aggressive behaviour.
  STV Solution
Over the past several years police and educators have come to recognize the value of forming cooperative working relationships to address both prevention and intervention issues. Prevention problems before they start is becoming more and more the guiding rule for the development of these partnerships. What has been missing up until now is a way for police and educators across the country to communicate with each other and share their successes and struggles. The Stop The Violence Magazine is the first Canada-Wide Safety-Network over the Internet created to fill this need.
