ATLANTIC SHORE FINISHES 2ND AT THE STATES!!!

State Pics
GAME 1)Atlantic Shore lost a tough opening game in the states vs Millville 5-1.Doug Miller pitched a no-hitter thru 5 1/3 innings but after leading 1-0 going into the 6th ,A-Shore gave up 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th and never recovered.A-Shore only tallied 5 hits thru-out the game and could never seem to get a rally going.Billy Kern led the offense by stroking 2 hits.Zach Hammond,Dan Cappelluti, and Phil John all chipped in a hit for the losers.

GAME 2)With their backs against the wall Atlantic Shore pulls out a huge victory over Manasquan 10-5 as Tim John pitches 5 innings to get the win.John struck out 14 batters out of a possible 15 outs and gave up 1 hit.Only 2 batters made contact by putting the ball in play.Billy Kern finished the game pitching the last 2 innnings.Kern went 4-5 while Paul Juliano went 3-4 with a double to lead the offensive attack.Dan McCall,Dan Cappelluti,Robby Crespo, and Tim John all added 2 hits apiece.

GAME 3)A-Shore stays alive beating Medford NJ 12-8.Leading 12-3 going into the final inning Medford made a run for the win while scoring 5 and leaving the bases loaded in the 7th but Shore holds on to advance.Dan McCall notches a win by pitching 4 strong innings giving up 3 runs on 4 hits and striking out 4.McCall opened the game with a 1st inning solo bomb shot to take the lead 1-0 with 2 outs....the rally wasnt done there as Bonanni singled then Cappelluti walked to bring Doug Miller to the plate with 2 outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd.Miller roped a double down the first base line to put A-Shore up 3-0.Rob Crespo then hit a bomb shot which apeared to be going out of the ball park until he was robbed on a great catch at the fence in center.Crespo got his revenge in the 6th while hitting a bomb shot homer that had no chance at being caught this time around to give A-Shore a 10-3 lead at the time.In the 7th it was Bonannis turn for sweet revenge, just one night after he was robbed from a home run by an outstanding catch over the fence Bonanni hit a 350ft shot to left center.Miller finished the night with 2 doubles.Bob McGuigan played a good game all around filling in for starter Zach Hammond.Cap finished with 2 hits and 2R's.Bone led the team with 3 hits including a 2 Run Homer, and Phil John finished goin 3-3.

GAME 4)Phil John gets win pitching complete game for a 5-3 come from behind win over Somerdale.A-Shore put themselves in a hole by giving up 2 unearned runs in the 5th to trail 3-1.In the top of the 6th Shore showed they had more heart than any other team in the tourney by never giving up especially with their backs against the ropes.Zach Hammond led off the 6th by taking the first pitch off his body to advance to first with 0 outs.Juliano then worked a walk which brought Billy Kern to the plate.Down 2 runs with runners on first and 2nd with 0 outs Kern laid down a perfect sac bunt to put the runners into scoring position but Hammond took a wrong break on the bunt and was thrown out at 3rd.McCall came up after runners advanced on a double steal.McCall hit a hard shot to short stop and Juliano and Kern both wound up at 3rd base in a strange but worhty play for A-Shore....Kern worked a run down and wound up being safe at 3rd and Jules scored.McCall advanced to 2nd on the play.with runners on 2nd and 3rd trailing 3-2 Chris Bonanni stroked a line drive double to center.Leading 4-3 going into the 7th McCall came thru with yet another clutch hit in the tourney scoring Juliano to go up 5-3.John shut down Somerdale in 7th striking out 2 with authority.

GAME 5)In what appeared to be abrother challenge at this point Tim John came back to capture his 2nd win in the Tourney beating Pennsville 8-4.A-Shore's big inning was in the 2nd when they scored 4 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks.Tim John walked with bases loaded to go up 2-0 then Billy Kern knocked in a run with bases loaded single.McCall then knocked in 2 himself with a clutch bases loaded line drive to go up 5-0.Pennsville picked away here and there to bring the game to 6-2 after 5 but A-Shore got those 2 runs back in the 6th on a Dan McCall 2rbi Double. While leading 8-4 with 1 out in the 7th and bases loaded Paul Juliano came in for releif work striking out the next 2 batters to save the win for Tim John.A-SHORE ADVANCES TO STATE TITLE GAME WITH THE WIN!

GAME 6)It appeared A-SHORE would have a good shot at winning after Kern doubled off the fence in left center and McCall folowed with his 2nd Homer of the tourney to go up 2-0 in the top of the first. But Hamilton came right back with 3 in the bottom of the 1st on a Jordan McCreedy 3 run bomb.In the 3rd Hamilton added 2 more runs on back to back solo shots from Sweeney and McCreedy to go up 5-2.A-Shore answered in the 4th with 2 runs to pull within one.Phil John led off with a double and Zach Hammond followed with an rbi single.Cappelluti and Crespo each followed with hits and Juliano knocked in one on a bases loaded FC to pull within 1.But thats when it all fell apart...in the bottom of the 6th A-Shore gave up 7 runs to put themselves in a whole they just couldnt get out of this time.Although they never gave up 8 run deficit was just too much to overcome.Notching 3 runs in the 7th proved that nomatter what they never gave up and always gave more heart than any team out on the field.

ATLANTIC SHORE placing 2nd was a great finish to a great season for the team and the ball players. As the coach for the 14/15 yr old team I wanna say thank you for the most memorable season ever in my 10 yrs of coaching.Without a doubt this team never gave up and always gave 110%.Not to mention we represented our league with the utmost respect.Billy Kern received an award for Sportsmanship Code in Babe Ruth Baseball. While I received the compliment of a lifetime from everyone in Pennsville as well as the State Commissioner by telling me we had the most respectable team seen in yrs.Thank you to everyone.

98 ALL-STARS....
This Atlantic Shore team was by far the best team in the state in 98, but they didn't play that way...
after becoming the 98 District 8 Champs by defeating Mays Landing twice they entered the State Tournament, where they lost to Gibbsboro/Vorhees and then Marlton.
Jason Hayes started vs Gibbsboro/voorhees and left the game with a nice lead but that was taken away when A-Shore played not too solid defense and some bad calls from the umps to lose a 7-3 lead which resulted in a 10-7 loss.
Marlton showed no mercy as they 10 runned A-Shore while scoring over 20 runs total, only 5 earned.

97 ALL-STARS ...
Atlantic Shore once again walked away with a District Championship by defeating Mays Landing in the finals.A-Shore beat Mullica,Folsom, and Mays Landing to eneter the Championship undefeated.MaysLanding beat Galloway to enter the Championship but were no contest for A-Shore.
The States were held in Hopewell N.J. and A-Shore started off with a huge come from behind victory over Mapleshade 10-4.Next they played Pennsgrove and blew a 7-2 lead. With 2 outs and runners at the corners in the last inning Pennsville came up with the win on a bogus catchers interference call. From what appeared to be the final out of the game with a F-8 to Lindquist..after a quick celebration the ump called catchers interference which placed the batter at 1st to load the bases.the following batter got a base hit to win the game for Pennsgrove.
A-Shore went on to lose to rival Nottingham 3-2 in an error free ball game.
