Horseback riding is an awesome feeling. I have the ability of directing a beautiful animal where I where want to go. A horse’s up and down motions relax my muscle, giving me better control over my body.

Doing the impossible and getting my batteries recharged at Jabberwocky

By Nancy Connelly

Photo Nancy ConnellyCamp opened my eyes to a brand new world of possibilities and just not the impossibilities. I learned to wheelchair dance with my friend Clark. I also got to be in my first play besides grade school plays. 'Grease' was my first real play to be in and it was a thrill for me to rehearse lines and dance moves, go over those 'non-sense' songs as Gil calls them and finally putting my cheerleader outfit on heading down to main cabin for my hair and makeup. It's worth it when you hear people hooting and clapping you feel like you're on cloud 9.

Camp has been my support group because I can ask anyone at camp a question or opinion on something if I can't figure it out. I count on my month on Martha's Vineyard to recharge my batteries/spirit for another year.  Camp is one out of two places other than my winter home that I can make my own choices where people wont say "no", but they say "how can I help." They don't care 'how' you do stuff as long you find a way to do it your own way. People encourage you when it looks out of your league or impossible that's why I love and call camp jabberwocky my second home.

Jabberwocky also is very upbeat until we have to go home but we keep in touch and start the countdown to camp again to get us through the winter.

Nancy Connelly has been going to Jabberwocky since 1991. While not recharging her batteries on Martha's Vineyard, she works as a proofreader/designer.
