Trail Etiquette

Tow Hooks – These things are required on the front and the rear of your vehicle. They are there to pull you out of a jam and they are there to help a friend out of a jam. You need to be willing and able to pull from either end.

Tow Strap – We usually have enough straps on the trail but proper etiquette (and club rules) requires you to be able to pull your own out if you get stuck. Recently, I needed a tree saver, two straps and all my winch cable to get out of a mess of mud.

CB Radio – I know the application only says you need to have a CB. Etiquette requires that the thing’s working.

Trailing Distance – You need to keep the person behind you in sight at all times. If you don’t see him, slow down until you do. The person in front of you will then slow down and so on and so on… The whole system should work without the intervention of the mandatory CB Radio.

Tools & Spare Parts – You should carry along a few tools and fluids and spare parts. You can’t carry along every thing you might need (unless your name is John Meeker), but between all the participants on a given day… We might have just the right thing to get someone out of a pinch. I’ve carried along brake line parts ever since I witnessed a brake failure during Trailfest a few years ago. We have used those parts on two different occasions to work around broken axles on Lamentation Mountain
