South Coast Botanic Garden

The South Coast Botanic Garden is one of the highlights of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Located on the hill at Crenshaw Boulevard on eighty seven acres, it contains over a thousand varieties of plants. The Botanic Garden is a great place for photography or just getting out and walking.

The beauty of the gardens belies the fact that it has been built on top of an sanitary landfill. There was no plant or animal life prior to the landfill project. Now, the gardens contain an abundant bird population in addition to the numerous groves of flowering trees.

Fruit Trees
There are many pleasant settings
within the gardens such as this fruit tree orchard...

...and lush, wide open spaces. Gazebos and
other surprises are around every corner.

Bring enough film for an afternoon of photography. I have noticed other photographers toting reflectors, colored backgrounds, macro lenses and gray cards for accurate meter readings. It can be a place for serious picture taking, but South Coast Botanic Garden is also a place for relaxation and enjoying the outdoors.
