Dining at the Bowl

During the summer months, the Hollywood Bowl is home to the Los Angeles Philharmonic. This outdoor concert setting is a wonderful way to spend warm evenings, eating dinner and drinking wine under the stars while listening to classical music. Making use of the Park & Ride service is a good way to beat the Bowl traffic. The bus trip and dinner at the bowl is one of our favorite summer activities, and we try to attend as many concerts as possible.

The Bowl Bus
This is where the fun starts. The Bowl Bus departs at 6:05. Got a ticket? If not, exact change is required.

It is not unusual to see other concert attendees enjoying elaborate spreads on the outdoor picnic tables or in their box seats, having picnic items including salads, nachos, pasta and deli sandwiches. I have seen crystal candelabra and china plates in use, even on the concrete steps leading up to the seats when the picnic areas fill up. Where else but in Southern California?

This picnic area is just above and overlooking the shell of the Bowl.
We are enjoying a delicious deli sandwich and a Chinese chicken salad.
White zinfandel compliments the meal.
Bring it on!

The Tchaikovsky Fireworks Spectacular is a dramatic production, with the 1812 Overture presented against a backdrop of fireworks. With a submarine sandwich and a glass of wine in hand, our outdoor dining room becomes bathed in the purple light from the overhead bursts of pyrotechnics. What a Hollywood production it is.
