Memories of New Orleans Early in the morning on Royal Street, the smell of the rum based hurricane drinks from their empty, oversized containers fills the air. Consider breakfast at Brennan's Restaurant where the fare is filet mignon with cabernet sauvignon-it's only 8:00 a.m., but why not get a head start on the partying? Everywhere are the clicking sounds of the tap tap tap dancing kids as they perform for your monetary compensation, while street musicians blow and frozen in time harlequins peer down from orange crates. Beignets and cafe au lait at Cafe du Monde satisfy one's hunger as you would expect fried dough and powdered sugar washed down with a strong chicory flavored coffee could.
Later in the evening when the crowd from Pat O' Brian's spills out into the street, the revelry and drinking continue under the noses of the mounted police. Once inside famous Preservation Hall, you'll find the old timers in the band taking musical requests for a five dollar bill and playing "When the Saints Go Marching In" for a slightly larger sum.
The sight of the St. Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square from the moonwalk is beautiful day or night, but the spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread at Mama Rosa's will be what brings me back to the Big Easy.
