Guitar Shop By Pete Prown April 1996 Performance: A whole new world Guitars: Gibson Les Paul with TransPerformance Rating: Four Guitars For years, Jimmy Page and Joe Perry have been showing off their TransPerformance DTS-1 guitars, which can instantly change tunings at the press of a button. Now, here’s a band that’s almost entirely TransPerformance driven, and you can really hear how this new piece of technology can alter the sound of the guitar as we know it. Guitarist Dave Beegle has demonstrated the guitar at past NAMM shows, but here in his own creative forum, he really stretches with the device. First and foremost, you’ll be dazzled by the huge rhythm parts which range from clean, ethereal chords (that morph before your ears via the TransPerformance) to killer metal riffs. But the gizmo isn’t doing all the work: Beegle is a top-notch player who carefully balances out catchy songwriting, tasty rhythm work, and find lead and slide playing. Top it off with a really punchy production job and you have an intense guitar disc that merits many repeat listenings on your CD player.
