About the Flag

I have a bad dream I don't like...
It's about the Dixie Flag that flies
at the State House in Columbia, South Carolina.

I keep dreaming I am going to be shot
Climbing the flagpole to get that flag down...

I think this flag belongs in a museum...
Not on the State House...
with SPOTLIGTS shining on it at night...

Oh, Beloved, don't tell me I have no right to speak!
Columbia's my hometown....
I was born and raised and educated in South Carolina,
So, I have plenty of right to speak of this.

In the first place, somebody sneaked that thing up there...
We never voted the Dixie Flag on our flagpole...

That's how these kinds of things work in the south...
you can't tell what you will wake up to...
in The Good Ole Boy network...

The Dixie Flag should not be on a State House pole...
And, I don't know how to get it down
Without getting killed.

Oh yes, in South Carolina
You'd get killed for a thing like that...
(Don't minimize our violence...)

So, how can the Dixie Flag come down?
That is the question.
That is my question.
I want it down.
I want it down I want it down I want it down

This is what thebaglady thinks:
The Dixie Flag flying over our State House in South Carolina
is an insult to America...
to every person in America...
It's a disgrace is what it is...an act of mean-spirit,
an act of dishonor, of racism of the soul.

Some people will tell you flying this flag
(since 1962)
is about honoring our Confederate dead,
our soldiers who died in the Civil War...
That is deceitful.
Oh Beloved, white people in the South are so damned
deceitful...
1962???????? Give me a break -
We all know flying the Dixie flag has nothing to do
with dead soldiers anymore...
Even the worst of us know this...
Which is why there is something so immoral
about this flag issue.

Here's another big problem:
We are a hard-headed, proud, stubborn people
in South Carolina...as in PROUD.
So, getting this flag down is no easy task...
How can we do it now without losing face?
(Face is important in South Carolina...)
But, this flag has to come down, you know...
It's got to be put finally where it belongs:
IN A MUSEUM.

Will you help me get this flag off our flagpole?
Please. I beg you. Do this for our children.
Do it for our country.
TheBagLady reminds you what goes around comes around.
Anyone who supports the Dixie Flag flying
on a State House flagpole
in any American state
dishonors our country and dishonors our democracy.

Who has the courage to stand up and be counted on this subject?
Who has the courage to correct this error?
