COMPANY HISTORY - COMPANY A, THIRD REGIMENT CONFEDERATE CAVALRY
I transcribed the following from the "record of events" Co. A, 3rd Confederate Cavalry, from muster rolls received from the Georgia Department of Archives and History. Some of the pages were copied at near to a 45 degree angle, and some of the writtting was not legible. The record of events covers a period from June 19, 1862, the date that Company A was mustered into Confederate Service, until the end of May, 1864.
Co. A, 3 Reg't Confederate Cavalry, Muster Roll of Captain F.M. Corn's Company in the Battalion of Confederate Cavalry Volunteers, commanded by Lt. Col. James R. Howard, called into the services of the Confederate States in the Provisional Army, under the Provisions of the Act of Congress passed February, 1861, by Capt. F. M. Corn from the 8th day of May, 1862 (date of muster) for the term of 2 years & 5 months (re-enlisted) unless sooner discharged.

RECORD OF EVENTS
Stationed at Liberty, Tenn., April 30, 1863. Retreated from Beach (?) Grove (?) about June 15, 1863 after an engagement with the enemy. Covered the retreat from Shelbyville of Gen. Hardee's Corps. Commencing June 26 picketed Tenn. River from July 9 to August 27 at Cepurton's (?) Ferry. Engaged the enemy there and retreated to Alpine, Ga, distance 50 miles, from there we moved to Lafayette, and from there to McLemore's Cove where we had a skirmish with the enemy; from there to Chickamauga where we taken an active part (over) in the engagement. From there we were ordered to Harrison's (?) thence to Tunnel Hill, Ga. where we remained about 15 days. Then we were ordered to Georgetown, Tenn. where we picketed Tennessee River till October 18 when we were ordered to Philadelphia, distance 40 miles where we had a hard engagement with Woolford's Cav. the 20 instant; from there to Loudon, Tenn., picketing the River till November 14, 1863 when we crossed the River & engaged the enemy at Campbell's Station. From there to Knoxville, Tenn; drove in the enemy's pickets. From there we were ordered to Dalton, Ga., which we reached Nov. 30, 1863; distance about 110 miles. From there we taken a scout to Benton (?) where we remained a few days & returned to Varnell Station where we picketed the front till Dec. 27? and went to Charleston, Tenn. & had an engagement with the enemy Dec. 28, 1863 & returned to Varnell Station, Ga., Dec. 29, 1863.

RECORD OF EVENTS
Since last mustered Company A has been picketing at Varnell Station, Ga., to the 12 January, 1864, and then marched to Oxford, Ala. to scout and reconortir (sic) a distance of about one hundred miles. Left Oxford, Ala. about 11 Feb. 1864. Marched to Tunnel Hill, Ga. a distance of about One Hundred miles and engaged the enemy the 23 (February), 1864. Skirmished daily untill the 27th (?) & since then picketing near Tunnell Hill.

RECORD OF EVENTS
Since last mustered Company A was engaged on Picket duty during the month of March at Tunnell Hill., Ga. Marched from there to Bluntsville?, Ala, 150 miles. Remained there till May 15. Marched from there to Marcella, Ga. Engaged the enemy on the 27 of May at Pumpkin Creek, and was also engaged on the 15 & 20 of the same in all of which we were victorious. (Transcriber whereupon gives a Rebel Yell!!!)
The above is a fairly accurate transcription of the muster rolls/record of events of Co. A, 3rd Reg't Confederate Cavalry. If anyone is aware of later muster rolls, please e-mail me , and I will include them.
