S.A.R.A. General Information

The Sumter Amateur Radio Association is the most active ham radio club in South Carolina. We are nearly 50 members strong and pride ourselves on putting our share of RF in the air. We are an ARRL affiliated club.

The flagship repeater is 147.015+, PL 156.7Hz (only when necessary due to interference). This repeater is located on a TV tower with a receive and transmit antenna at 800 feet . Additionally we have 146.640-and 224.12- (linked) with gateways to 10M and 6M FM simplex. These are located atop the tallest building in Sumter County. UHF is on 444.150+, PL123Hz with just a bit smaller coverage area. We operate a packet BBS on 145.71, with features including a call book server and TCP/IP access. We also produce a monthly newsletter. Submissions to the newsletter can be emailed to K4NOC

Although not an official S.A.R.A. repeater, many members make use of the ATV repeater belonging to WZ4O (Hap). The output is on 421.250 and input on 439.250 with audio only input also available on 144.34. You can monitor the output with an antenna connected to a TV tuned to cable channel 57. Join us for an informal roundtable every Sunday evening after the net. Aim your antenna at the Sumter County Office Building.

Meeting Information

Club meetings are held every month; general membership meeting is the 3rd Monday beginning at 7:30PM at the Red Cross at 1155 N Guignard across from Time Warner Cable. Watch the newsletter and keep an ear to the repeater for special meetings and social events.

The Board of Directors meet each month on the 3rd Monday night, prior to the general membership meeting. The meeting starts at approximately 6:45PM.

Talk-in is always available on the 147.015 repeater.

Membership Information

Membership is open to anyone. Full membership requires the potential member to hold a valid United States amateur radio operator license. Honary memberships are also bestowed by the Association under special circumstances. Dues are determined by the Association in March of each year and have normally remained constant. The dues period will run for a 1 year period beginning May 1. New members joining after May 1 of any year will have their dues prorated at approximately one-twelfth the annual dues per month. Any member who is more than three(3) months in arrears in his/her dues shall have his/her membership terminated. Special arrangements can be made if you contact the Treasurer.
