Very interesting site, i live in shrewsbury in england uk, you do get some odd requests, like are the two towns related or are you the original from people who have lived in my town for a while, and there is a big sign on the way in and way out, that its medieval town, oh dear the ignorance of some people lol.

Allen Herbert Bent wrote a genealogy of Walter Allen in 1896. He later produced a supplement which he prepared for the Society of Descendants of Walter Allen at Shrewsbury, MA, Aug. 24, 1900, 8 pages. Do you know where I might find a copy of the documen or any information on the Society of Descendants of Walter Allen? Thank you, Harold Odiorne, direct descendant of Walter Allen. Southwick MA

Thank you for your work. I have connections to Shrewsbury through the Slocombs, Maynards and Noyes...as well as Harrington. Your help in providing so much useful information is truly appreciated. Some day I will get to see my "roots" in person.

Where or how did your town get the name Shrewsbury. Did you "take" it from the real Shrewsbury Shropshire , England. Or are you the original?

I believe I am related to a famous Shrewsbury residence from the colonial times ,Armeteus Ward, who was a revolutionary war general. My maiden name was Ward, and I can document my father, side of the familyback to 1824, a Henry Ward. My family was from Mich gan, but I have researched for several years, and discovered he had a son named Henry, the ethenic background fit, and the portrait of Armeteus Ward in the Smithonsian looks like the men in my family. I had a cousin who went to Wash. D.C. in 1985 and saw hi picture and said it looked just like Uncle Bill, even before she saw the name on the portrait. I live in the west, and we are sadly lacking in historcial information, other then the library.I have this feeling someone from back there can fill in gap of istory. I can find what Armeteus has done in his life, his accomplishments, his not seeing eye to eye with George Washington, etc.but nothing about his family or what happen to them. One reference source says he did have a large family, and one of his son' was Henry Ward as he did some other contribution that was noteworthy as a footnote in history. Thank you in advance for any response I might get from a avid historian in the area. Thank you. Valerie Ambers

I am trying to find information about a grocery, confectionary store located at the corner of Main Street and North Quisigamond Avenue Shrewsbury,Mass in business 1941-44. I do not know the name of the business. I have copies of fire and liability insurance policies issued to my Grandfather, Joseph A. Martel and my Father, Leon H. Martel. At the time their home address was 62 Main Street, Shrewsbury, Mass. Do you have anyting about this business? Any postcards or newspapers from that time frame. I will be visiting in Charlton in May. Any information or contact would be appreciated. Barbara Martel-Quesenberry.

Hi, I am in the process of planning a wedding, I have spent much of my life in Shrewsbury at holiday times with my Grandmother. Since she is now housebound I am planning on having the wedding there in Massachusetts and was wondering if there were any historical building where we could hold it. I don' know if anyone from the society reads this guestbook on a regular basis so I will also send a note via US Mail on this subject! Thanks! Sheri Bacon

Now living in California, I look forward to yearly visits to the "Colonial" village where I learned to walk, ride and grow. Traveling most of the globe, Shrewsbury will always be home. I often reflect on the old "Brewers Mansion and Center School" and lea e you with this thought: Preserve what's left of this "farmland" as we can't raise the dead.

I came across your sight looking for birth & death certificates, only more recent. However since I was here I wondered if anyone could tell me more factual information on the history of the old Masonic Property (Prospect St, Shrews). Also I was wonderin why the "Garden Of Sweet Rememberance" was allowed to become somewhat vandalized. Why was the damage not repaired? It's a beautiful place and certainly it must have some historical value to the town, does it not? Thanks, S.
