The Science Olympiad is a scientific compition that is held yearly at many locations accros the country. The regonal compition in western Michigan is at Grand Vally State Univarsity. (GVSU.) This is open to all schools that wish to enter. The state compition are open to those schools that preform well at the regonals. The National conition, for state winners, will also be held at GVSU in Michigan. The location of the Nationals changes annualy.
I am the president of the club my school has formed to represent our school at this compition. The copition involves many independant events. The consepts behind these events come from biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, math, and scientific resoning. A list of Events and Discriptions are avalable here.
The regonal compition at GVSU was, and is(?), the largest regonal compition in the country. From about 40 divion B and 20 divion C often comes the national olyimpiad winner.
This is the first time in several years that my school is going to the compition. I have previously competed 3 times and we have high hopes for our team.
At East Kkentwood we established a club to act as our team.
Last year we recived 8th place in our region of 28 schools. We recived medels in Bio Process Lab, Redesigner Genes, Cell Biology, and one other event.
Our team hopes to advance to state compition this year. We hope to raise our school out of the dregs of a good athletic past that has recently failed.
