The Basics
The iWing "Colors" commercial is a parody of the original 30-second iMac "Colors" commercial featuring the song, "She's a Rainbow" by the Rolling Stones. The iWing ad uses the same soundtrack as the original iMac ad, as well as an almost-identical choreography. However in certain sequences, iWings performed fly-by's rather than the constant dizzying rotations of the iMacs.

The Idea (Updated! Less annoying..)
The Apple iMac is a more like Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace--both are more technologically and visually impressive than their predecessors (The original Macintoshes/Mac Classics and the Star Wars Trilogy, respectively), however there seems to be something lacking.

The Phantom Menace wasn't a horrible movie--Jar Jar was, perhaps the only truly annoying character (as opposed to ROTJ, where we had to put up with the entire tribe of Ewoks), but it had some problems. There was some weakness in some characters (i.e. Anakin, Padme) due to a broad plot and significant sub-plot (whereas, ANH had a single overriding plot).

Likewise with the iMac. Don't get me wrong--I've used the traditional "Bondi Blue" iMacs, and I don't have any huge complaints (other than the weird-shaped mouse). In fact, it kicks the crap out of my Pentium-90Mhz "Classic" (sans MMX) any day. In fact, I find the Apple iMac "Colors" commercial very well-done and classy--it closely parallels the successful Gap Commercials

But Colors? Sure it's cute, but it's just a computer.

When introducing its iMac as: (1) coming in colors; (2) an iMac Flower; (3) Yum (need I say more?) it seems that Apple's commercial suggests buying an iMac (of your color preference, of course) largely because it "comes it colors [everywhere]." Apple may have gone a little too far in its "Colors" campaign.

Eggplant FlavoredThe iWing brings the idea of the iMac "Colors" commericial one step further. The idea of choosing color over functionality in a computer or an Incom T-65 is ridiculous. Besides, we are reminded of the Millennium Falcon,

"She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts..."
- Han Solo, Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope.

The Commercial
Original "iWing" models modelled in sPatch and rendered in PoV-Ray 3.1e with MSVC engine.

790 frames rendered, some processed by Adobe Photoshop 4.0, assembled into 11 Flick (*.flc) sequences by Dave's .TGA Animator 2.2.

Sequences imported into QuickTime 4.0 and exported using Indeo 5.1 Codec.
