Danny K. Blevins

My name is Danny K. Blevins. I live in the Eastern Kentucky community of of Van Lear. If you have ever seen the movie,"Coal Miner's Daughter", this is the location where the actual story really took place. Van Lear proper has a population of about 1600. Our town's post office serves around 3,500 people.

I am a public school teacher in the Johnson County School System. Science and social studies are my speciality areas. I currently teach seventh grade thru the senior year of high school at the Johnson County Alternative School.

Community service has always been a major facet of my life. I am currently the President of the Van Lear Historical Society, Inc. The society operates The Van Lear.

Another hobby of mine is astronomy. I just cannot seem to be able to get enough ASTRONOMY!!! In the past I have helped with various astronomy workshops under the direction of Dr. Benjamin K. Malphrus, the Director of the Morehead Radio Telescope on the campus of Morehead State University. I work part-time with the East Kentucky Science Center at Prestonsburg, Kentucky. I am a NASA "NEW" alumni of NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA (1999). I am currently one of three JPL Solar System Ambassadors for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Often, I do astronomy with Mr.Mike Burchett of Staffordsville, Kentucky. In the past we hosted a CATV show called,"Starguide" that was carried on several Eastern Kentucky Cable Systems. We also, co-wrote a weekly newspaper column in "The Paintsville Herald."
