How to search on the Internet
There are more and more people searching information on the Internet. It is
time consuming and frustrating to search on the Internet for experienced
users as well as beginners.
Generally speaking, there are four search methods for Internet users to
search on the world wide web.
- Directory:Yahoo-Searches databases by subject matter
- Search engine:Infoseek-Accesses databases by using keywords
- Directory/Search engine:OneKey-A search tool that uses two search
methods (Directory and Search Engine)
- Meta-search:Dogpile-A search tool that searches databases by employing
several search engines in parallel
Most Directory search tools today supply search capabilities by both
Directory and by Search Engine. Because of their greater complexity,
keyword searches receive far greater coverage than subject searches. There
are some useful operators in keyword searches for example:AND, OR, NOT,
PLUS/MINUS SIGNS, QUOTE MARKS, BRACKETS etc.
