The Survey Instrument

As a graduate student in Instructional Media Technology at Southwest Missouri State University, I am currently assimilating a job description for a District Technology Coordinator. To do this I need your help.

As an administrator or person in the field, you have the knowledge to help me put together a working description of what a Technology Coordinator really does. I am setting a goal as the first of October, 1998, as a deadline to have these surveys returned. Thank you so much for participating. If you would like a copy of the results, please add that information to the bottom of the survey.

Background Information: It has come to our attention that school districts in Missouri and other states have recently been hiring "Technology Coordinators". In the 1960’s, more affluent school districts hired Audio/Visual Coordinators who were in charge of anything from overhead projectors to film libraries to video equipment. As many of those audio/visual positions faded out with the money, school librarians (library media specialists) absorbed more of these responsibilities. The current demands for computer systems training and implementation have created greater interest in those specialized services as well as for classroom teaching and administrative activities. In addition, many schools just want a special "technician" who can do the physical wiring and installation of computer technology. With all of these types of media technology related efforts, the evolution of "Technology Coordinators" positions in schools appears to be taking on a variety of roles and new images. It is my desire to determine what type of individual is being sought for such titled positions and to determine if there are common characteristics desired for such positions.
