1. Safety issues regarding medical devices:

Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH)
This arm of the FDA is responsible for regulating medical devices and conducting electromagnetic interference (EMI) investigations.

Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA)
OSHA, an arm of the U.S. Department of Labor, sets safety standards in the workplace. Information on Exposure Control can be found here.

National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH)
An arm of the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the NIOSH deals with safety and health issues.

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)
The NRC regulates medical uses of nuclear materials to ensure protection of public health and safety.

The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI)
AAMI sets standards for biomedical equipment in healthcare facilities.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
The NFPA site has information on fire and safety in general. It also sets standards on fire and electrical safety in health care facilities. The NFPA 99 standard can be obtained from their online catalog.

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)
The IEC sets international standards for all fields of electrotechnology.

Underwriters Laboratories (UL)
The medical devices homepage of UL, an independent non-profit safety testing and certification organization.

Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)
Accreditation organization that sets standards for proper and safe operation of healthcare facilities.

OSHWEB Safety
A good site on chemical, electrical, fire, radiation, fire, and product safety.
