April 8th 1999 Severe Weather Chase in Southern Central Illinois

I met at 2:45 p.m. at Hardee's In Morton Illinois. We left and headed south to route 136 down to Route 24 stayed on Route 136. We made a pitstop in Macomb Illinois will go to Carthage Illinois. 5:00pm a Tornado watch for Fulton, Knox, Mason, Menard, Sangamon, Hancock, Schyler, McDonough, Marion, Shelby, Warren, Louis, Adams, Brown. This watch was declared a Potentially Dangerous Situation. We are outside of Carthage at approximately 5:21. The line of most Severe weather should be from a line at Cedar Rapids down to Quincy. The temperature was in the 60°. A Storm Cell developing over Missouri will be close to Carthage within 20-30 minutes. Going south on route 94. Tornado Warning for Lee and Hancock counties. A severe thunderstorm 13 miles Southwest Keokuk moving Northeast. We moved 1 miles east of our current position. 5 miles west of Carthage into E-NE 40 MPH. Leading edge of the storm into Carthage 6:20pm

TORNADO 6:47 near Elvaston confirmed by Sherrif's department and us to be a TORNADO 6:55-7:05pm. Two houses Destroyed.
