Application Form for the Co-operative Education Program

Thanks very much for your interest in our Co-operative Education Programme. The programme offers volunteer work for students who are at a high intermediate to advanced level of English in various industries where they have experience and/or strong interest.

The goal of our programme is English language development. Most companies offer low-level, administrative work to our students and, in exchange, the students get the chance to interact with Canadian workers, learn about work culture in this country and improve their English. Students must be willing to be flexible and help out with tasks offered by the company.

In Canada, Co-op programmes have become very competitive as universities, colleges and high schools now offer this option. As a result, our students must be as competitive as possible in order to make them more appealing to companies than Canadian students.

To apply for the Co-op programme, our office needs a resume and application (listing 3 choices for placement) at least 4 weeks before the student arrives at Canada. Once the student has registered for co-op and we have received his/her documents, we will contact a telephone interview with the student. This is a very informal discussion which allows us to have a better idea of the language level and to give us the chance to explain some co-op policies and procedures. Students must complete at least 4 weeks of fulltime study in an ESL classes before going on work placement.

The Co-op program is designed for students with mid intermediate to advanced English skills at the time of starting the work placement. I understand that my English speaking and listening abilities will be assessed when I arrive at the school. A change in my program may be necessary if I require more language training.

I understand that all placements are subject to availability of host companies and depend in part upon my qualifications and experience. With my best interests in mind, the co-op coordinator reserves the right to choose my placement at their discretion.
