The Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center consists of two inpatient divisions and two satellite outpatient
clinics. The Medical Center is a major teaching facility for Case Western Reserve Universisty, School of
Medicine and has an active research program with funding from the VA and other sources of over
$11 million annually. Outpatient visits for the consolidated facility total over 500,000 annually.
The Wade Park inpatient services include acute and intermediate medicine, surgery, psychiatry,
spinal cord injury, geriatrics, neurology, and physical medicine and rehabilitation. Special
clinical programs and services include cardiothoracic surgery, renal dialysis, a noninvasive
vascular laboratory, a sleep disorders laboratory, women's health, CT and MRI, and
radiation therapy. Innovative approaches to meeting healthcare needs include a short stay unit, for same day procedures
and a Hoptel unit to provide temporary quarters for out of town patients and their families. Affiliated with the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine for the training of physicians and
dentists, the division is a leading site for the development of healthcare professionals. The
Cleveland VAMC supports 123 residency positions in fields such as optometry, podiatry, psychology,
nursing, nutrition, social work, and a variety of other support disciplines with affiliations with multiple colleges,
universities throughout Ohio. The clinical and basic research program is among the largest in the Department of Veterans Affairs, with researchers
known nationally and internationally for their contributions to medical science.
