Peripheral Nerve Injury Studies
The McQuarrie laboratory has received funding through the Dept. of Veteran Affairs and the National
Institutes of Health for 19 years to study the mechanisms involved in the repair of nerves that have been
damaged. Dr. McQuarrie is interested in changes that occur in the nucleus of neurons that facilitate
repair, as well as the mechanics involved in reconstructing a new axon for the nerve cell body. Dr. Linda
Lund joined his project as a biochemist and molecular biologist to study how new proteins are made and then
shipped to destination sites. These new proteins allow these processes of repair and reconstruction to occur.
