Thanks for visiting my S.M.A.L.L. web site. My name
is Kenny Williams, I live near Elkland, a small town
in south Missouri. I have been flying S.M.A.L.L. since the
autumn of 1968, when I got my first Cox control-line model,
a Spitfire, powered by a Cox Babe Bee .049. My first R/C
plane was a Goldberg Jr. Falcon, which was also powered by
a Cox Babe Bee .049 and was controlled (well, more or less)
by an Ace R/C Pulse Commander rudder only radio system.
It flew pretty good as long as I didn't move the control
stick!
My primary hobby is half-A (.049 cid) and smaller
R/C model airplanes. I do have some larger planes, but
I seem to always enjoy the S.M.A.L.L. models more. I
am also an amateur radio operator ("ham" radio), call
sign WBØVPS.
To support my hobbies and pay the bills, I am a
Commercial Vehicle Officer with the Missouri State
Highway Patrol. I am assigned to the portable scale
unit based in Springfield. I have been with the Patrol
for 25 years.
I have a grass R/C airstrip about 20 yards
from my back door. I like to refer to it as the "Mode-I
International R/C Airport", in honor of my peculiar
R/C transmitter setup. I'm not the only person in the
world that flies "Mode-I" (aileron/throttle on the right
stick, rudder/elevator on the left stick). Hazel Sig, of
Sig Manufacturing
and Stu Richmond, the Sunday Fun
columnist at
R/C Modeler
both prefer this mode. My airfield is a quiet, laid-back
place where I can fly with my friends. I don't have lots
of rules here, like the club fields must have. I just ask
that my guest pilots use good sense, common courtesy and
have a good time!
