Cultural Survival
As the modern world imposes itself further and further into the developing areas of the world, the people living in those areas find themselves fighting for their cultural survival. Their languages and traditions are being lost almost as fast as the rain forests. For the most part, they have no voice to speak in their own behalf. The good folks at Cultural Survival are trying to be that voice.

Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI)

SETI Institute
These are the professionals, actual scientists who spend their time looking for signs of intelligence from deep space.

links to other SETI sites - click "General Info" and scroll down to "Links to Other Sites", way at the bottom of the "General Info" page.

SETI League
These are the amateurs, who for the most part are indistinquishable from the actual scientists.

links to other SETI sites - scroll down to "Press Relations" on the left side of the screen and Click "Internet Svcs" at the bottom of the "Press Relations" list.

I never cease to be amazed at the huge number of experts the SETI community has produced. In spite of the fact that none of them have ever found an ET they remain experts on how to do it.They all know for instance that ET broadcasts a narrow band signal somewhere between 1400 and 1700 megahertz and in recent years some of them have come to know that ET sometimes transmits nanosecond laser pulses. ET never does anything else. How do they know that ??

Between the SETI Institute and the SETI League you can, at least, find links to almost anything to do with SETI.

ALMOST.....

Bootes Project
This is a discussion group talking about the possibility of alien probes in our solar system, based on the ideas of Duncan Lunan as presented in his book "Man and the Stars".

JBTSETI is presently constructing the first SETI station designed to detect alien probes in our solar system. We call it the Solar System Mapping Project.

Anyone searching the Solar System needs information about the Solar System. The absolute BEST source I have found yet is called: Nine Planets. This site is an encyclopedia of images, explanations, data, and really excellent links to other useful sites.

There are thousands of "small" bodies in our solar system and locating one of them is almost impossible without some help. Lowell Observatory is an excellent source of help. On the home page click Resources and Services, then Asteroid Observer Services. ASTEPH plots an ephemeris for any "asteroid" you have a name for.

Exoplanets Search
The search for extra terrestrial intelligence doesnt seem quite so nuts when you find out just how many extra-solar planets there are! And these are just the really HUGE ones that we can detect.

Mail Order

All Electronics
Surplus electronics, a good place to get the little stuff, transistors, resistors, LEDs, etc.
JDR Microdevices
Computer products, PC projects, electronic components. This is where I got the VGA to TV converter used in the Solar System Mapping Project.
Fair Radio Sales
Electronic surplus, military and commercial.

Anomolies

Independant Researchers' Association for Anomalous Phenomena
There are a lot of people are out there looking in to all manner of strange phenomena and the good folks at IRAAP have given us a place to go to share our findings. They are an interesting and very likeable group. If you wonder at the strange things of the world, you really should give them a call.
Science Frontiers Online
This is an absolutely amazing source of anomolies that were found in various mainstream scientific publications. In other words, it is a lifetime supply of ideas, things that need to be explored further !!

Very Low Frequency Radio Waves (VLF)
Radio Waves Below 22 KHZ
An interesting introduction to some of the weird stuff on the "radio" at very low frequencies. A surprising number of the signals on the air at these frequencies are of unknown origin.
Natural Radio
Also an introduction to low frequency radio with links to places that go in a little further. Natural Radio is only one of the many interests of what appears to be a group of amateur mad scientists. This might be an interesting place to look around just on general principles. Follow the link to the Altair Homepage.

Software - Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
Sigview
A really nice realtime spectrum analysis program. The last time I looked they were asking a small fee. A completely functional, FREE , time limited trial version is available for download.
Goldwave
Digital audio editor. Easily downloaded, doesnt do much analysis but creates a wav file from audio input. A really professional looking screen. A small fee is requested.
Spectrogram
Real time spectrum analysis. They are asking $25.00 and, in my opinion, it is well worth it. They also offer a FREE time limited trial version for download. Spectrogram, or something just like it, is the one that you see all over the low frequeny radio websites.

All of these packages take audio input from your sound card and do not require any special data aquisition cards.

The software page at the SETI League is a good place to look too.

Odds and Ends - Fun Stuff !
Canton Airsports
Sometimes jumping out of an airplane is the only reasonable thing to do. Click "static line" to see my all time favorite passtime. (second only to SETI ). If any of you would like to try jumping and live near northeastern Ohio give me a call, Bob Ryan aka jbtseti. Maybe we can set something up.
The Amazing Atlatl
Did you ever wonder how our ancestors were able to bring down mastadons with spears? Well in case you ever do, the answer is, they used atlatls! This is not quite the same rush as skydiving, but then again, we dont use real mastadons either !!!
