These settings should be used if you are on resnet at Edinburgh University and are having difficulties accessing resnet sites using the configuration explained in the handbook.

Windows XP (for internet explorer)

1) Open "Internet Options" in Control Panel. (Open Control Panel if you don't have it expanded in the Start Menu).
2) Click on the "Connections" Tab
3) Ensure that the "Never dial a connection" box is selected, then click on the "Lan Settings..." button
4) Uncheck the boxes labelled "Automatically detect settings" and "Use automatic configuration script".
5) Check the box labelled "Use a proxy server for your LAN (These settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections" and fill in the following information:
Address: wwwcache.ed.ac.uk
Port: 3128
Then click on the "Advanced..." button.
6) Check the box "Use the same proxy server for all protocols" and use the following exceptions:
*.ed.ac.uk;127.0.0.1;localhost;10.*

Mozilla Firebird (and presumably Firefox)

1) Run Mozilla Firebird
2) Open "Tools" Menu
3) Select "Options..."
4) Select "General" and click on "Connection Settings..."
5) Set manual proxy as wwwcache.ed.ac.uk port 3128
6) Ensure following have no proxy: 10.0.0.0/8, .ed.ac.uk, localhost, 127.0.0.1


Now test to see whether these settings are working by accessing:
