As you all know, without drugs neither such an illness has been defeated, nor people live so much. Some times we were ill, we had fever, we had pain, but because we took some pills or a spoon of sirup all these passed up. And also thousand people live and work in the production and trade of the medicine.

The beginning of this very important branch of Chemistry and Pharmacology, as happened the same with all the other sciences, arts and literature is found centuries ago in Ancient Greece, the source of our today civilization. What do-we mean with this? The medicine till its production passes from different stages. First of all it has discovered. We found that this organism, this plant or microbe produces some substance that take illness away. After that, they discover this substance, his molecular formula and after they make its synthetic construction in the lab. So the man imitates Nature, not to destroy valuable living creatures and to take out of them this medicine.

What is the connection of Greeks with all that? Let's take two examples of medicine. The first because is very usual and the other because it is relatively new and, as they say, a miracle.

The first is Aspirin. The official name is Acetyl-salicylic acid, but it has also an empiric name: Willow-tree acid because it is found in the leaves of willow-tree. This was discovered by Greeks, in fact Hippocrates (Really why we said Ancient Greeks and Modern Greeks? Have-you heard about ancient Albanians and modern Albanians or ancient Japanese and modern Japanese?) So the Greek Hippocrates said to persons who was ill to masticate leaves of willow-tree. The willow-tree acid does to spittle, from there in blood circulation and then in the center of pain into the brain, so pain passes away.

Of cause today, if everybody in earth had a headache and masticated leaves of willow-tree, the tree will have been vanished from earth. They have to found a synthetic way of construction. The man who have found it was again Greek. Economides, in 1899, in Germany, in professor Bayer's laboratory (No connection with the multinational company with the same name).

The second medicine is new. It is officially produced in1994. His name is Taxol, a very strong anti-cancer medicine. When they have been used for laboratory reasons among persons with cancer to whom no other medicine could stop its development, a 30% were shown great improvement and one of them was totally cured. The tree from where we take out this medicine is described in Homer. Homer in Iliad has described over of two hundred of medicine from ointments against infection to soul-medicines.

In Homer it is mentioned a tree named “Itamon” (Rude) or “Death-tree” and everybody knows that no bird or insect try to damage this over-centuried tree.

Also the Greek Theophrastos in 300 BC wrote that the extract from the leaves of the tree is a deadly poison.

After many centuries, in 1971 they found a tree in America which is called "TAXUS BREVIFOLIA" (The word TAXUS is connected with the Greek word "Toxic"). This tree contains this poison from where its effective substance is called Taxol.

But they saw that they can't be used. The cause: Taxol is very, very rare (They must totally destroy three over-centuried trees, in order to isolate a single gram of Taxol).

In 1991 and because, as we said, the medicine has very astonishing effect, a Drug company decided to begin its production. They foresee that natural deposits last only five years and many over-centuried forests will be destroyed. Ecological movements in North America have been alerted. In front of this deadlock Chemists remembered Theophrastos and the medicine is synthetically produced.

Again, a Greek named "Kyriakos Nicolaou" chemist in SCRIPPS foundation in California, who was born in Turkish escalated city in Cyprus named "Karava" announced an easy plan in synthetic production of Taxol and its derivatives, so there will not be any lack of it in the future.
