1.1  MMVS Concept

(Mission/Purpose  and Functions, Space and Ground Segment sketches)

The Purpose of this mission  is to conduct a scientific survey of Mars.  The mission consists of transporting five astronauts to the surface of  Mars for an extended five-month stay.  During  the space segment of the mission, the Manned Mars Vehicular System or MMVS will  be constructed in space with help from the ISS and the Canadarm and then used to  send the crew straight to the surface of Mars. Three prior missions will also be sent to carry the ERV's, habitat,  power-plants and the scientific equipment needed for the success of the mission. The habitat and the power-plants will be set-up through the  use of robotics and maintain readiness for the arrival of the MMVS.  When the MMVS arrives, it will deploy a polar satellite to stay in  constant communication with Earth. At  the end of the mission, the five crewmembers will then board an ERV and will  return to the surface of Earth. The  Ground segment of the mission will consist of coordinating the training of the  crewmembers and coming up with solutions to multiple danger scenarios. As well, the ground control will be in charge of construction and  assembly of the various vehicles that will be used during the mission.  However, the most important role of the ground control is to maintain the  readiness of the Mars mission site and maintain contact with the crew.
