WB01362_.gif (755 bytes) Marty is my best friend, and has been since high school.  He is currently finishing Chiropractic school in California.  Marty's long and colored academic career is finally culminating in preparation for a life as a doctor of chiropractic medicine.  He and his wife, Ana, have been married just over a year.  She is probably the best thing to have ever have happened to Marty (besides having me as a friend!).  She is currently teaching kindergarten (Ana, please correct me if you are teaching something other than kindergarten.) while Marty finishes school.

I have many stories that have Marty as the central character, but I am not sure that this is the proper venue for their telling.  I had, for a time, thought that my role as his best man in his wedding would allow me the perfect moment to humiliate my best friend.  But, alas, I relented and gave a boring and trite best man's speech.   Marty has always been the friend who keeps us laughing, smiling, and, sometimes, just scratching our heads.  His wit and dry sense of humor often eludes many people.   For this, most would probably be happy, as his humor is not always kind.   Though, true to his fair nature, he reserves his most damaging, derogatory humor for himself.

Marty is also a soccer buff, like the rest of our gang.  However, unlike the rest of our gang, Marty is an extremely fast runner.  His long strides and elegance on the soccer pitch liken him to other, far more worldly figures such as Marco Van Basten of Holland, or Juergen Klinsmann of Germany.  We have often said that Marty has only one speed- FAST!!  Surprisingly, he chose not to play soccer in college with any of us.  Rather, he chose far more lofty goals, namely, academics.   College soccer is the worse for his decision.

    A BIT ABOUT THE PICTURES:

Marty's Wedding- Surprisingly, everybody was able to make it to California for his wedding.  Along with Gary, Louie, and myself, also there were Andy (Louie's Brother), Bear, Chad (a friend of Marty's from NAU), Tony, Steve Wilfong and Stacy Davis.  Stacy actually contributed to the lasting memory of this trip.  She works for The Ritz Carlton, so she had a suite for our last night.  We had a cheery tea and cheese party well into the night.  There might have been some beer there as well, I'm not sure.  The funniest moment of the week was watching our friend Tony Robson pulling an ice cooler behind him into the pretentious confines of the Ritz.  The snooty, pretty rich folk scoffed and lifted their noses high and away from the trash we apparently represented, but ever-forward went Tony and his cooler of beer.  Ahhh... what a great moment.

Not to distort the image of that momentous event for Marty and Ana, I have to say that this was one of the most beautiful weddings I have ever attended.   From the setting to the language of the pastor's reading, the wedding was perfect.

Gary's Wedding-This was another great time for all of us.  It was the first time any of us had met Marty's future bride, and the first time I had met Gary's wife.  Again, almost all of us were able to make it to the wedding.  Several of Gary and Louie's friends from college were there as well.  Gary had arranged a golf outing for all of us, this being my first time with a stick in my hand (or club, whatever they call it!), and it turned out to be one of the highlights of my trip.  I was awful.  In spite of that, I had a great time.  Gary's was another beautiful wedding.  It was nestled in the hills of Tennessee (Suwanee? I forget).  I never knew the south had such beautiful places.
