Classifying conodonts can be confusing!  Elements may change form as they grow or wear down.  Some conodonts fragment into parts that look unfamiliar, and a single species name may include as many as seven dissimilar element types that may all belong to a single conodont animal.  Changes in structure may represent a different sub-species or even an undiscovered species type.  To simplify my organization, I have decided to give each conodont element type a simple nickname to help me keep track.
