Stonecrop

(a.k.a.: Wild Stonecrop; Woods Stonecrop)


Sedum ternatum

 This fleshy member of the Stonecrop family sports small, ½ inch (1.3 cm) wide, white flowers with 4 or 5 petals in terminal clusters atop a (usually) three-branched stem. Leaves are rounded and fleshy with the lower leaves usually being in whorls of three. Plants reach heights of 3 to 8 inches (7.6 to 20.3 cm) and often form a mat on banks, ledges and boulders in woods. Flowers bloom in April and May.
