Problem of the week: May 26, 2004

1.- The sum of three numbers is -2. The sum of 3 times the 1st number, twice the 2nd
number and the 3rd number is 9. The difference between the 2nd number and half
the 3rd number is 10. Find the numbers.

2.- A computer A, can process a payroll in 30h, a computer B can process the same
work in 20h and the fastest computer C can process the work in 15h. How long
would it take the three computers together to process the payroll?

 

3.- How many liters of a 50% solution of H2SO4should be added to 6L of 25%
solution of H2SO4 to obtain a 40% solution?

 

4.- A rectangle is to be inscribed in an isosceles triangle of height 8 and base 10.
Find the greatest area of such rectangle.
