Beirut Arab University with the cooperation of the Lebanese Astronomical Society is glad to introduce two Astronomy courses:
Astronomy 101 (Introduction to the Universe)
Astronomy 102 (Introduction to the Solar System)

Each of these courses is a 15 week - one hour per week course which will be a general introduction to the Science of astronomy as well as to the observational techniques used in modern astronomy.

In these courses we will tour the solar system. We will learn about the peculiarities and the similarities of all the members of our solar system, and become familiar with some of the speculation about their origins. We will also venture beyond the solar system to consider the nature of the stars, as well as the larger groupings of stars called galaxies and clusters of galaxies. We will also make an introduction to cosmology, the study of the overall origin and structure of the universe. We will not only learn about the universe, but also gain an appreciation of how we know what we know and how we make observations (4 observational sessions per course) by using the large telescope of Beirut Arab University Observatory at Dibiyeh (30 km. south of Beirut).

Fees for the course

The cost per course is 50,000 L.P. (100,000 L.P. for the two courses- Astronomy 101 and Astronomy 102)

Certificate

Upon successful completion of the two courses (Astronomy 101 and Astronomy 102) and payment of the fees a Certificate in Astronomy is awarded to the students. The content of these courses (certificate) corresponds to the Introduction to Astronomy courses -Astronomy 101 and Astronomy 102- usually given at any international university.
