Introduction to The Lebanese Astronomical society:

The Lebanese Astronomical Society "L.A.S" (Originally known as: The Lebanese Amateur Astronomical Society) was officially founded in 1999 in  BEIRUT, LEBANON by a group of amateur astronomers. 

The official registration  number from Ministry of Interior is : 16/ad 

The Lebanese Astronomical Society is run by a board of directors consisting of 5 people. 1-President 
                                   2-Vice President 
                                   3-Coordinator 
                                   4-Treasurer 
                                   5-Accountant 
The board of directors  is elected by the Active members every 2 years. .(The active members are those members who have been officially accepted by the board of directors and who have paid  their membership fees).

Objectives and Activities of the Society:

The objective of the society is to promote the Sciences of Astronomy and all its branches. This is done by holding regular meetings and viewing nights, distributing astronomical information, and encouraging popular interest in Astronomy. 

General meetings and lectures  will be held each month. These meetings usually feature a presentation or group discussions and are designed to assist newcomers to become familiar with many aspects of Astronomy.- There is usually something of interest for everyone. 

In addition to the regular meetings the society also holds Viewing Nights and Public Star Parties to introduce the night skies and allow the public to view the Stars, Planets and other astronomical objects through the large telescope of the society's observatory. 

General meetings and lectures of the society will be held at Beirut Arab University in Room number: 405  at 7:30 pm twice a month (on wednesdays). Please contact Mr. Adnan Taiara  telephone number 01-376895  for additional information on Lecture dates.

Astronomy courses at Beirut Arab University:

The Lebanese Astronomical society in cooperation with one of the major universities in Lebanon (Beirut Arab University) is now glad to introduce to the public two Astronomy courses:

Astronomy 101 (Introduction to the Universe)

Astronomy 102 (Introduction to the Solar System)

Viewing Nights:

Regular viewing nights will be held at the observatory of Beirut Arab University at Dibbeyeah (40 km south of Beirut).
Free Transport to the Observatory by bus will leave from the university at 7:00 pm and come back at 10:00 pm. Please contact Mr. Adnan Taiara  telephone number 01-376895 for additional information on exact dates.
