Tools you Need

As you gain experience and devotion to the hobby you should be creating your own workshop. Find a place where you can work for several ours with out being bothered, try to avoid bedrooms because they are too duty. Here are the most important and necessary tools any serious modeler should have:

Airbrush

The airbrushes is a tool that is essentials in the modern painting. With it you can have glossiest, finest and realistic results; all of them need an air source so important as airbrush it self. There are two kinds of airbrushes single and double action airbrushes. The single action airbrush allows you to regulate the amount of paint that flows out it. With a double action airbrush you can regulate the amount of paint and the flow of air, making it more capable of doing more details and effects that the single action can't; it is more difficult to control.

Brushes

Although there is plenty of brushes in the market, the modeler just needs 9 or 10, three or four of very good quality, and other five that can be of nylon. You should have brushes of sizes 0, 1, 2, and 3 that are used to paint almost anything. The smaller are used to detail things (sizes 0 and 1, 00 and 000 are also used, but are harder to use and control), the others are used to paint the rest. You could use bigger sizes to paint bigger zones. We using the brushes keep in mind bigger brushes for bigger areas, smaller brushes for smaller areas.

Clamps

Useful for keeping together or still, almost anything

Files

The types of files available is also huge, they all are very useful. The most used are the flat, square, round and triangle ones.

Glues

An essential thing to have. There are many types and you might use different types for different uses. I recommend that you use plastic cement, that is especially for plastic. You may also use CA glues (cyanoacrylate glues).

Hobby Knifes

The gamut of hobby knifes available is huge; though in practice you will use no more than four, somehow you may need to do an specific work that will better the look of a model, so it will justify to have that specific knife.

Minidrills

They are very handy for the hobby. You can give almost any use you want.

Paints

The most used paint is the enamel and basically there are two types: gloss and flat. You might found textured and metallic paints too. The most used paint is the flat except in the decorations of vehicles. Metallic colors are semi-transparent so you'll need to apply an under color or a base color. Acrylics colors can also be used. You are able to use almost any kind of paint, meanwhile they are opaque enough.

Pliers

A set of pliers is profitable. Round shaped pliers are used to curve wires and metallic plates, pliers with curved tips allow you to act in places not much accessible, cut pliers have a very long range of uses.

Putty

The putty is a good material to fill up holes and correct any kind of defects that a model can have.

Sandpaper

Used to level irregular surfaces.

Spatulas

A small spatula will help you to apply putty.

Tweezers

Essential tool used to almost anything, to grab little things, etc...
