This is the Lincoln - Herndon law office building where Lincoln practiced.

Lincoln's Home in Springfield IL

Lincoln lived in this home while practising law.  It was originally a one story house.  Lincoln added the second story.  This area of Springfield has a reconstructed neighborhood  resembling closely that of Lincoln's period.

Lincoln was born in Kentucky.  His mother died there and his father, Thomas, remarried and moved to the site of this reconstructed log cabin about sixty miles from Springfield IL.  Lincoln did not live in that cabin but visited here often while living and working in Springfield IL.  Lincoln did own about forty acres of this property in order to preserve the home for his parents.
