Biographical data

Born in Mazara del Vallo (TP), Italy, on January 22, 1947

Bachelors Degree in 1968 and Master Degree and Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Palermo with the experimental thesis "Mössbauer spectrometer Project", prepared during a stage at Centraal Bureau voor Nucleaire Metingen, EURATOM, (CEE), in Geel (Belgium).

 

Scientific activity

In 1973-1974 taught Electrical Engineering, Chemical Systems, Electrical Systems and Electromechanical Constructions at the Technical and Industrial Institute in Mazara del Vallo.

From 1975 involved, as a Scientific Researcher at C.N.E.N. (Italian National Committee for Nuclear Energy), in the field of the safety of fast reactors, dealing particularly with the PEC reactor (Test Fuel Element).
In 1976 course in nuclear instrumentation at U.K.A.E.A. (United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority) in Harwell (UK).

In the period 1977-79 involved, within the C.N.R. (Italian National Research Council) research group "GIFCO High Energies Astrophysics", in Palermo, in the sector of data remote sensing, gathering, and analysis.

In 1979-1987  member of the Italian Parliament, Chamber of Deputies.

In 1987 he coordinated computer-science research projects at the CNR Institute of Cosmic Physics and Applications of Computer Science (IFCAI) in Palermo. Involved, also, in the ENEA (Italian Committee for Research and Development of Nuclear and Alternative Energy) programs for environmental protection and use of the renewable energies.

In 1988 he takes a course of scientific improvement for "Experts of management of the energy for small and averages organizations" and in 1989 Responsible, as an ENEA Senior Researcher, for the Center of Integrated Energetic Advisory Enea-Bnl in Palermo, dealing with energetic saving and use of alternative energies. 
In 1991 Responsible for the Sicily-Sardinia Unit of the
ENEA Relations with the Territory and Responsible of the Unit Relations with the Territory "Sicily-Sardinia" (REL-TER-ISO).

In 1995 Responsible for the Sicily-Calabria-Sardinia Unit of the ENEA Central Function Marketing (MARKT) with the objective to coordinate projects of scientific research in those three regions.

In 1996-1999 coordinated the Central Function Relationships with Institutions (IST-TER) at the ENEA office in Palermo and developed research activities at the CNR Institute of Marine Resources and Environment (IRMA) in Mazara del Vallo, gathering and analyzing data with the ANNs methodology to forecast fishery resources.

In 1999 collaborated, as a member of the "Technical Scientific Committee for biotope of Capo Feto", in the Project “Life-Nature 1999 - Reclamation and Environmental Remediation of the Capo Feto Biotope (LIFE99 NAT/IT/006270)”.

From June 2002 through August 2003 Responsible for the scientific aspects of the EGIFACO training program, whose primary objective was the development of Experts in the Integrated Coastal Zone Management.

Responsible for the scientific aspects of the MASTEGEC (Master in European Strategies for the Coastal Zone Management).

From December 2003 he is Scientific Responsible of the project named "MOGEIFACO", having the objective to elaborate an integrated coastal management of the West Sicily coast.

Responsible for HIRM-2082, the satellite reception station, located in Mazara del Vallo, and authorized by NASA to receive high resolution data SeaWiFS LAC from Orbview-2 and Responsible, within the GIFACO, for research projects focused on the integrated coastal zone management.

From 2006 Scientific Responsible of "DREPANCOAST Project".
