PROGRAM

Northwest Texas School of Medical Technology is a clinical training program for those seeking a degree in Medical Technology or a Certificate for those who posses a degree.


CURRICULUM

H-400 PHLEBOTOMY: Instruction in capillary, venous and arterial blood collection.

H-401 HEMATOLOGY:Study of cellular structure of blood and related diseases using state of the art electronic equipment.

H-402 COAGULATION:Investigation of hemostasis by monitoring anticoagulation drug therapy and natural clotting pathways.

H-403 URINALYSIS:Chemical and microscopic examination of urine.

H-404 BLOOD BANK:Preparation of blood products for transfusion. Detection and identification of irregular pre and post transfusion antibodies.

H-405 MICROBIOLOGY:Identification of disease causing bacteria, fungi and parasites. Performance of antibiotic sensitivities.

H-406 IMMUNOLOGY:Performance of serological tests to determine and monitor antibody - antigen response to disease states.

H-407 CHEMISTRY:Quantitative and qualitative examination of body fluids using sophisticated analytical instruments.

H-408 MANAGEMENT/EDUCATION:A study of continuing quality management and its role in the modern lab. Emphasis on the learning process as a tool in the modern lab.


PREREQUISITES

Overall and science GPA minimum of 2.5.

CHEMISTRY: 16 semester hours or 24 quarter hours to include Organic.

BIOLOGY: 16 semester hours or 24 quarter hours to include Microbiology. Bacteriology and Immunology together or separately.

MATHEMATICS: A minimum of one course in college level math.


NOTE: Chemistry and Biology courses must be directed toward a major in either Biology or Chemistry. Remedial courses in any subject are not acceptable.


Affiliated University students are given first consideration.

The school is accredited for six students annually. The number of students accepted is determined by the staff prior to next student interview and acceptance cycle.
