Before the Dropping

There were many events that led up to the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. The purpose of this page is to bring you the facts of what was happening before the bomb dropped, important events that led to it, and the people that had the power.

mass could be converted into energy in his equation, E=mc2. No one knew how catastrophic his findings would be.
Joined with the theory of nuclear fission the idea sparked to create weapons of war with nuclear applications. When the scientists, Leo Szilard and Eugene Wigner discovered that it was possible not only to create an atomic bomb; but that Germany might make one, they quickly informed the President who then ordered the formation of an American counter program named the Manhatten Project.
The Manhatten Project was the name for the US nuclear bomb project; whether the Japanese or Germans had also been racing to create the bomb was unknown. The team constructed two types of bombs: the first was fashioned into a gun type weapon which was made of two pieces of uranium-235 which would be fired together forming a dangerous explosive mass; the second was made using synthetic element plutonium. The plutonium was surrounded with high explosives to compress it into a more pwerful, superdense bomb.

President Truman's diary entry on July 25, 1945.

We have discovered the most terrible bomb in the history of the world. It may be the fire destruction prophesied in the Euphrates Valley Era, after Noah and his fabulous Ark.

Anyway we think we have found the way to cause a disintegration of the atom. An experiment in the New Mexico desert was startling to put it mildly. Thirteen pounds of the explosive caused the complete disintegration of a steel tower 60 feet high, created a crater 6 feet deep and 1,200 feet in diameter, knocked over a steel tower 1/2 mile away and knocked men down 10,000 yards away. The explosion was visible for more than 200 miles and audible for 40 miles and more.

The Theory

The theory for the construction of the A-bomb originated from the wel known scientist Albert Einstein. He had predicted that
