My parents village , Yerollakos, is placed 10KM west of the capital
city of Nicosia. It is in the area under the Turkish troops since the Turkish
invasion in 1974. This is done despite the fact that ever since the occupation
of Cyprus is declared illegal from international bodies including the security
council of the United nations.
Yerollakos was having 600 habitants at the beginning of the century
and this number was doubled by 1930s and became almost 2000 in the year
1960(in which Cyprus declared its independence).In 1974 before the people
forced to live their land the village was having 2500 habitants.
The most important factors of the development of Yerollakos was:
1. It was placed near the capital of Nicosia
2. The construction of Nicosia international airport in the Yerollakos
area in 1936.
3. The big agriculture area round the village.
