Sun's Java Site. This one is a must watch for many reasons. There is a search engine as well as a number of training tracks.
Java Platform 1.1 API Specification
IBM's Java Site Distinct IBM flavor, but... Includes useful discussion of Microsoft's "contributions" to Java.
Serialization Sun's JDK 1.1 Helpful to understand the topic in general.
Although a bit dated, the electronic version of this book is helpful.
