2001 UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS APPLICATION ANNOUNCEMENT

East American Chapter

The East American Chapter of the Annual Phi Tau Phi Scholastic Honor Society
offers two (2) scholarship awards of $1,000 each in Year 2001 to college 
undergraduates in recognition of their outstanding academic achievement, 
scholarly contribution and services in the leadership roles, as well as their 
strong commitment to the Chinese heritage and culture. Awards will be presented 
during the annual meeting of the organization in October 2001 in New York City.

First organized in 1921 in China and re-established in 1964 in the U.S. as a 
nonprofit corporation, Phi Tau Phi is a relatively small, apolitical 
organization with its objectives to recognize outstanding scholarship and to 
encourage bonds of intellectual fellowship.  Our members, mainly of Chinese 
heritage, are by election only, being extended to the accomplished in various 
disciplines of sciences, technology, art and humanity.  If you have any 
question or have difficulty in locating a sponsor, please contact the officers 
or the Scholarship Selection Committee listed below.


Conditions of Eligibility
To be considered as an applicant for the scholarship, a student must:
1.  Be sponsored by a Phi Tau Phi member.
2.  Be a matriculated junior or senior pursuing a degree at an accredited 
institution of higher education east of Ohio, Kentucky, and Alabama States 
during the current academic year.
3.  Have an overall college GPA of 3.4 or higher.
4.  Be of Chinese heritage, or interested in and committed to Chinese heritage 
and culture.
5.  Have not previously received a Phi Tau Phi award in the same category.

To Complete the Application:
   1.  Fill out the application form as provided.
   2.  Enclose complete and official college transcript(s).
   3   Enclose an essay (see Application Form for details).
   4.  Enclose two letters of support.
