Wow! This ‘Blogging’ thing is great!
I haven't told anyone about this blog's existence yet, and yet I feel like I have actually discussed all these things with someone! Someone like you and other imaginary people, because no one knows about this blog yet, and I seriously doubt anyone has stumbled upon it by accident. This is the Marianas Trench of the Deep Web after all.
So is a blog just a diary on the internet? No, because I'm writing to an audience, even though I know there may never actually be one.
It must have something to do with working my thoughts out and getting them down ‘on paper’. I wonder if just talking to myself would create the same effect. Probably not. Even here in the deep web, there is at least the potential that someone will find and read this (and I plan to give that a little nudge by telling a few select people at some point (you know who you are)), while just talking to myself almost guarantees that no one else will ever hear…
So even though ‘talking to myself’ is essentially what I’m doing here, albeit in writing and in html, the feeling that I have actually bounced all these ideas off another real person and gotten their feedback must be the difference between intellectual knowledge of something and deep, intimate understanding of it. In other words, I know in my head that no one has read any of this, but I don’t feel like that is the case. It’s like throwing a message in a bottle into the ocean, and yet I feel like my message has been received and understood by someone anyway.
So I highly recommend blogging! It may well be the perfect way to express the thoughts and ideas you have and want to get out, but that you know would bore the life out of anyone you subjected them to! Start your own blog today!
